He is a screenwriter, producer, animation director, born on April 25, 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. He began working as an animator at Disney in 1977. In 1986, he co-wrote and co-directed the movie, The Great Mouse Detective, in which he first started collaborating with fellow director John Musker. He was nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film for Treasure Planet (2002), The Princess and the Frog (2009) and Moana (2016).
