American actor, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA on February 14, 1894. He received an Emmy Award in 1958 and 1959 for The Jack Benny Program (1950-1965). He also received a Golden Globe Award in 1958 for Best Television Show and got 3 stars on the Walk of Fame for his work on radio, television, and cinema. He married actress Mary Livingstone (1927-1974), with whom he had a child and he remained with her till his death.
Among his most important works are Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935), To Be or Not to Be (1942), and Hollywood Canteen (1944). He learned to play the violin at the age of six and mastered playing it until he became a brilliant musician. He finished school and joined the theater with his mother and siblings and then joined the radio, presenting his successful program, which soon turned into a successful television program. He worked in cinema in many films, but his success on radio and television was greater than cinema.
