An English author born in Manchester in November 1849 to a very poor family that moved to America. Her most important works are the novel Haworths (1879), the novel Lusina (1880), the novel The Beautiful Savage (1881), and the novel During the Administration (1883). In addition, she wrote a play called Esmeralada (1881) with the help of actor William Hooker Gillette. In 1886, The Young Lord Fontelroy was published, which sold more than half a million copies. In 1898, she got a divorce from Mr. Burnett. In 1900, she married her second husband who was a businessman whose marriage lasted only two years, and their divorce took place in 1902. She died on October 29, 1924 at the age of 74.
