He born in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England, United Kingdom on November 8, 1909 and died in Encinitas, California, USA on January 11, 1999. He married two wives and had two children. His most important works are Tarzan, Ivanhoe (1952), Adventures of Don Juan (1948), and The Fountainhead (1949). He refused to follow the path of his father and grandfather by working in the army, and preferred artistic work, and he showed a talent for acting. He stood on stage at the age of 16 and spent two years studying Theatrical acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art RADA in London in 1930. At the end of the year, he was standing on Broadway theater in New York City, and the following year he returned to London to continue his theatrical work in the West End theaters in London. In addition to his theatrical work, he presented his first films, Many Waters (1931) and presented several films, such as Death Drives Through (1935) and Our Fighting Navy (1937). He was enlisted in the Royal Air Force when the Second World War broke out and remained there until 1946. He went to Hollywood with a contract with Warner Brothers, where he presented his first film, Adventures of Don Juan (1948). He is known for directing the series Surfside 6 (1960) and 12 O'Clock High (TV Series 1964–1967).
