A Finnish-American actress, born in Helsinki, Finland, as Taina Elisabeth Elg. She won the Golden Globe Award in 1957 for Best Foreign Actress, and the following year, she won the same award for Best Actress for the movie Les Girls (1957). Taina Elg married Carl Bjorkenheim (1953-1958) and they had a child before they separated in divorce. She then married Rocco Caporale (1982-2008). Among Taina's most important works are Hercules in New York (1970), Les Girls (1957), Watusi (1959), and The 39 Steps (1959). Actress and dancer Taina Elg was one of the most famous artists in Finland. Her father, Elik Elg, was a pianist, and her mother, a Russian immigrant, Helena, was a pianist. Taina trained at an early age in dancing and acting and joined the Finnish National Ballet. At the age of ten, she participated in some Finnish films. When she was a teenager, she participated in two films and danced in one of them, and her international personality began to grow when she joined The Royal Ballet in London and the Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas in Paris, but a serious injury made her reconsider dancing. Fortunately for her, she was discovered by the American film producer Edwin Nove, and because of the success of the Scandinavian Anita Ekberg in Hollywood, MGM signed her for 7 years. After that, she presented some successful films, and when her career began to decline in Hollywood, she turned to musical theater in the 1960s with television appearances. She appeared on Broadway for the first time in 1970 and continued her theatrical work while presenting some cinematic works. She was nominated for a Tony Award in 1975 and continued her television work. Her last appearance was in a Finnish film production, Kummelin Jackpot (2006).
