When Rabei'e's first novel becomes a smash hit, the manager of the publishing agency informs him that they will print a second edition. Anis asks Rabei'e to start working on a new novel.

Rabei'e takes his mother to visit the village where he was born. Umm Rabei'e (Rabei'e's mother) meets her brother-in-law and stays in his house since her own is not clean. As Umm Rabei'e and Umm Adel (Adel's mother) look for a girl to clean the former's house, Salwa volunteers to do it.

Rabei'e strikes up a conversation with Salwa whenever she comes to clean the house, telling her about his work. Rabei'e decides to start working on the new novel.

When Salwa arrives to clean the house, Rabei'e asks her to have a cup of coffee with him. Salwa tells Rabei'e about her life, informing him that she returned to the village after she completed her education and learned about her mother's illness.

As time passes, Rabei'e and Salwa share a mutual admiration. Rabei'e informs Salwa that he has started on his new novel and asks her to read what he has written so far.

Rabei'e enlists Salwa's help with his new novel, informing her that he has already finished it, but the material he has can only fill about 30 pages. As they discuss what he could do, he comes up with the idea of extending some of the dialogue. Salwa suggests new topics for Rabei'e to use in his novel.

Rabei'e builds his novel around Yehia who gets close to his married neighbor, whose husband has been out of the country for years, until they develop feelings for each other as her husband returns from his travels. A suitor proposes to Salwa.

Rabei'e notices how unhappy Salwa is, but she evades him when he tries to ask her about it. As Rabei'e congratulates Salwa on her engagement, she informs him that she rejected her suitor, which led to a fight with her mother. In the novel, Yehia falls for another married girl called Samar.

Abu Adel (Adel's father) visits his nephew Rabei'e to talk to him. In the novel, Yehia and Samar's relationship develops, and they go out together outside of campus.

After a day of absence, Salwa goes to Rabei'e's house, and he shyly tells her that he missed her. In the novel, Samar goes to Yehia's house.

Yehia informs Samar that he no longer wants to see her. Salwa reads the novel and discusses the events with Rabei'e. Umm Rabei'e questions him about his relationship with Salwa.

In the novel, Yehia meets another married woman and begins an affair with her. Rabei'e confesses his feelings for Salwa, sharing that he is close to finishing his novel and proposing to her.

Salwa confesses to Rabei'e that she was in a relationship with a college classmate and slept with him. Rabei'e leaves Salwa and returns to the Levant. When his mother learns about what happened, she admonishes him for abandoning Salwa, only to discover that Rabei'e based the novel on his own experience.
