When Rainbow learns that Johan is trying to pass himself off as a different race, she gets angry, while their parents tell him to take pride in his race.

Alicia and her sister Denise argue over who’s stronger, while Rainbow is asked to take care of Johan and Santamonica.

When Paul invites a student of his to live at the family home, Rainbow becomes smitten with him.

Bow’s parents worry as she starts going to church with her friends, while Santi and Johan, believing they are doomed, start gearing up for hell.

As Paul wants to sneak into Denise and Alicia’s neighborhood Spades match, they tell him that it’s not just a game, and explain its importance both on culture and race. After watching a movie, Bow, Johan and Santi find out what divorce is.

Paul is worried that he doesn’t spend enough time with the kids. Alicia and Denise notice that they’re being stereotyped at work on account of their race.

After having sex-positive discussions with her parents, Bow has her crush come over to the house. Johan and Alvin desperately try to see breasts.

Taking care of Grandma Shireen, Alicia’s mom who came to stay at the Johnsons’ after her surgery, starts becoming a nuisance, whereupon Denise tests the kids to determine who can take care of her in the future.

When Paul finds out that Alicia bought herself a pricey purse, he tells her to return it, while Bow, wanting to impress her schoolmates, asks Alicia to buy her an expensive backpack.

When Tamika, Rainbow’s best friend, asks her to plan her 14th birthday party, she tries her best to make it cool and kicky. Santi and Johan go on a trip to Mexico with Harrison.

Paul gives Harrison dating tips, as the family finds him on a date. Alicia is upset when she learns that the kids seek Aunt Denise for advice instead of coming to her.

Paul takes advantage of being white and helps Denise run some errands in the hope of becoming better friends with her. While selling chocolates for a fundraiser, Rainbow, Johan and Santa learn some shifty sales approaches.

In the 1980’s, one of the kids gets lost, throwing Alicia into a panic, while in 2021, adult Rainbow, Santamonica and Johan have different recollections of what happened when they had their new bicycles.
