    Toqa Hesham

    Nadia El Gendy is an Egyptian actress. Her first cinematic appearance was through the movie Gamila (1959), after which she participated in slightly larger roles in films, such as The Cheater, and My Wife is Crazy in 1973. After El Gendy starred in the television series The Whirlwind, she made her first cinematic starring experience in the movie Bamba Kasher, through which she achieved wide stardom. Her most important movies during the eighties include Khamsa Bab. During the nineties of the twentieth century, she also presented more films that were a huge box office hit during their screening in theaters, such as A Mission in Tel Aviv, and A Woman Shook the Throne of Egypt. On television, El Gendy starred in several series, including The Journey of a Woman, Who Shot Hind Allam, and Queen in Exile.

    Nadia is a distinguished Egyptian performer who was born in Alexandria. The magazine “al-Geel” labeled her as the best new face when she was yet to turn 15. She thereafter performed in her first cinema title. Her cinema debut involved several minor appearance in the film “al-Gammila” (“The Beauty”) where she appeared alongside Magda, Roshdy Abaza and Ahmed Mazhour. The title was discussed the revolution in Algeria and was produced in 1960. In the 1960s Nadia performed several minor roles and married the renowned actor E’mad Hamdy who was 40 years her senior. She worked in Lebanese cinema before returning to Egypt to assume the lead in “Bamba Kashr” where she also contributed to costume design and accessories . Nadia was successful in that pursuit. Nadia el-Guindy also had an outstanding performance in “al-Dawammah” (“The Whirlpool”) which premiered in the mid 1970s. She also acquired a reputation as a well-rounded artist who sings and dances in addition to acting. Following her separation from E’mad Hamdy from which she had her only son, Hisham, Nadia married producer Mohamed Mokhtar. Mokhtar worked at the Foreign Ministry before submitting his resignation and starting a production company. The couple collaborated on a few movies with Hisham producing some of her most important film titles which include “al-Battinyah” (“Mysticism”), “Wikalat al-Balah” (“al-Balah Agency”), “Khamsat Bab” (“Five-Door”), “Muhimma fee Tel Abib” (“A Mission in Tel Aviv”), “Amn Dawla” (“National Security”), “Shabakat al-Mawt” (“Network of Death”), “Al Irhab” (“Terrorism”) and other titles. Nadia received 5 awards for best actress for her role in the cinema title “al-Raghba” (“The Desire”). These awards have included national and international honors in addition to an important award from the Film Society in 2003. Nadia has succeeded in shaping herself as an important women through her repeated portrayals as a women who is capable of ascending the social ladder through her ambitions alone. She has presented various films with political and social themes. She sang too and viewers dubbed her “Star of the Masses” because she has brought in some of the highest returns in the history of Arab and Egyptian cinema. She could also be considered one of the most expensive performers to hire. Nadia was honored recently at the International al-Rubatt Film Festival in Morocco, the Damascus International Film Festival in Syria and the 2009 International Cairo Film Festival in Egypt. Nadia has returned to television roles with the start of the new century through her participation in the TV dramas “Meshwar Imraa” (“A Woman’s Journey”), “Man Atlaq al-Rassasa a’la Hind A’llam” (“Who Shot Hind A’llam”) and “Malika fee al-Manfa” (“Queen in Exile”) which has earned her numerous awards, the most recent of which was from the state of Jordan. Nadia also received the Oscar Gordon award for that title. The series has moreover received the bronze medal at the Jordon International Media Festival. Nadia’s contributions to cinema are ongoing.
