An Egyptian novelist, journalist, poet, director, writer and actor. He was born in Port Said in 1920. He formed a theater group in his name, wrote and directed its works, and also worked on writing and Arabizing operettas. In the cinema, he directed, wrote and composed the score of the films The Penalty, Respectable Families, Love and Price, and Violet Flower. He's known as Sheikh Youssef in the movie The Land (1970), directed by Youssef Chahine. He immigrated from Egypt and lived between Lebanon, Iraq, Libya, Italy, the Soviet Union and France, and died outside Egypt in 1987.
