An Iraqi actor who was born in the city of Al-Amarah in 1946 to a father who was a barber and was considered one of the city’s intellectuals and figures at the time. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Baghdad in theatrical arts in 1970. He was ranked first in his class, which prompted the university to appoint him as a teaching assistant in 1971. He obtained a doctorate in directing and theater sciences from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Bulgaria in 1985 for a thesis entitled Contemporary Problems in Theater Direction. He is considered one of the prominent figures on the Iraqi art scene as he impacted the acting and theater directing fields. He published a lot of research and studies, including Theater and Heritage, The Director in Contemporary Arab Theater, Resources of Popular Theater, and The Genesis and the Development of Arab theater. He has a set of methodological books taught at the College of Fine Arts. He also wrote many skits and programs for the radio and directed theater performances by Iraqi, Arab, and foreign writers. He also acted in theatre, television, and cinema. His works highlight the legacy of his predecessors and are extensions of their heritage as he said. He is known for the play The Palm and the Neighbors (1969). He died at the age of 71 after a long night he spent battling with illness in Yarmouk Hospital in Baghdad.
