He was born on 14 February 1970 in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England. He studied English literature and performance, then studied at the University of Bristol. Pegg's relationship with cinema began in 1993 when he moved to London to become a stand-up comedian, where he succeeded in catching the attention of producers. He then starred in several TV series, including the comedy series Asylum, Faith in the Future, and Hippies. Pegg began a new stage in his career when he starred in Shaun of the Dead with his friend Nick Frost. He then starred in several films, including Hot Fuzz (2007) and Paul (2011). Pegg also co-wrote some of the films he starred in. He was nominated for Best Comedy Actor for his role in the comedy series Spaced. He was awarded an honorary fellowship from the University of Gloucestershire in 2008. Pegg married Maureen McCann in 2005, and they have a daughter.
