Sean Bean is a British stage and film actor. He is best known for playing Boromir in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and patriarch Eddard Stark in HBO's series "Game of Thrones" (2011). Bean was raised in South Yorkshire, England, and before pursuing acting, he planned on joining his father's welding business. After acting in some college plays, he applied for and received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He was cast in a number of West End stage productions in the late 1980s. In 2002, Bean played the principal role in "Macbeth." The play and Bean's performance were so widely praised that the show was extended in London. Bean also found work in a variety of big-budget films, including "GoldenEye" (1995), "Troy" (2004) and "National Treasure" (2004). Fans have noted he often portrays characters that are killed off.
