Her most prominent roles are in Bull Durham, Thelma & Louise, Dead Man Walking, and Stepmom. In 1996, she won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Dead Man Walking.

Susan Abigail Sarandon is an American actress born in Queens, New York City, on October 4, 1946. Sarandon has been a fixture of television and films since the 1970s, and won an Oscar for Best Actress for "Dead Man Walking" (1995). The Oscar nomination was her fifth in that category. Her other notable films include the incredible "Thelma & Louise" (1991), "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), "Little Women" (1994), "The Client" (1994), "Anywhere But Here" (1999) with Natalie Portman, "Igby Goes Down" (2002), in which she plays the ultimate psychotic controlling mother, "The Lovely Bones" (2009) and "Cloud Atlas" (2013). Sarandon has for several decades been an outspoken activist on a range of liberal issues-confronting racism, environmental justice, marriage equality and GLBTQ advocacy. She was staunchly opposed to the U.S. invasion of Iraq and was vocal about it from an early point. In 1999 she was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
