He was an American actor born in San Diego, California, on April 5, 1916. He was nominated for an Academy Award 4 times and won it for Best Leading Actor for To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). After graduating from San Diego High School, he worked in the Broadway theater, and in 1942, he presented the play, The Morning Star. In the following year, he moved to Hollywood and signed a contract with RKO and starred in the movie Days of Glory (1944). His stardom came with the second movie, The Keys of the Kingdom (1944). He is known for Roman Holiday (1953), Gentleman's Agreement (1947), and Spellbound (1945). Peck was married two times and had 5 children. He made a number of television appearances during the 80s and 90s, including the miniseries Moby Dick (1998). He died on June 12, 2003 of pneumonia and cardiorespiratory arrest, at age 87. |
