American screenwriter and novelist born in 1950 in Enterprise, Alabama, USA. He graduated from T.R. Miller High in Alabama. He received his BA and MA from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in English from Brandeis University in 1978. He taught screenwriting at Boston University. He's known for Beetlejuice and Tales from the Darkside. He died on December 27, 1999 in Boston, Massachusetts, of an AIDS-related illness.
