An American actress, born on October 6, 1908, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. She is known for her roles in many screwball comedies during the 1930s, she was on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema, and she was the highest-paid star in Hollywood in the late 1930s, but her career was short-lived, as a result of her untimely death on January 16, 1942, at the age of 33 in a tragic plane crash while returning from a tour to support the country during World War II by selling war bonds. Her notable films include Twentieth Century (1934) and My Man Godfrey (1936).
