An American actress, singer, comedian, and writer, born on April 26, 1933. Despite the wide fame achieved by her long-running variety show, Carol Burnett has also achieved tremendous success on stage as well as in the fields of television and film. She lived a difficult childhood due to her parents' alcoholism. Initially, Carol performed in many New York nightclubs. She achieved smashing success on Broadway in 1959 with her performance in the play "Once Upon a Mattress" and was nominated for a Tony Award for it. Carol made her first television appearance on The Garry Moore Show, in which she continued to work for three years, winning an Emmy Award in 1962. Later on, she moved to Los Angeles and soon began presenting her own television show, The Carol Burnett Show, which was broadcast on CBS for eleven years straight from 1967 to 1978. Both Carol and the show went on to win several Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. She also participated in other television and cinematic productions. Her notable works include Annie (1982), Noises Off... (1992), and Horton Hears a Who! (2008). Moreover, Carol presented many dramatic roles, such as her role in Friendly Fire (1979). She appeared as a guest in the series Mad About You, receiving an Emmy Award for her role in it. In 1995, she returned to Broadway to participate in the play "Moon Over Buffalo," which garnered her a nomination for a Tony Award.
