An American director and screenwriter, born in Queens, New York, and grew up in Westbury, Long Island, New York, and Livingston, New Jersey. He received his B.A. at the University of Michigan in 1973, and his Ph.D. in English at the University of Virginia. He began his film career in the mid-1980s. He worked on shows such as Divorce Court, The Osbournes, and America's Next Top Model. Among his most notable work are Grief, Echo Park LA, Still Alice, and Colette. He passed away on March 10, 2015.
