An American actor, born in Omaha, Nebraska, USA, on October 17, 1920, as Edward Montgomery Clift. He received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1969. He died on July 23, 1966, in New York City, New York, USA due to a coronary artery blockage. He began his artistic career at the age of 13 on Broadway and stayed there for 10 years before heading to Hollywood. He was homosexual, which affected his film career. His first film was Red River (1948), followed by The Search (1948). He is also known for Judgment at Nuremberg (1961).
Clift received 4 Oscar nominations. In the fifties, he suffered from allergies, colitis, and chronic diarrhea, which prevented him from performing his military service in World War II, in addition to his addiction to narcotic pills and alcohol and his guilt over his homosexuality. He spent a lot of time and money on psychiatrists.
In 1956, while filming the movie Raintree County, he deliberately crashed into a tree with his Chevrolet, causing his teeth and face to break, for which he underwent several surgeries. He died 10 years later, which was called "the longest suicide in Hollywood history."
