He participated in World War II as a British soldier on the Asian front and was arrested by Japanese forces...Read more to be imprisoned in a prisoner of war camp. He was imprisoned for 6 months in a cold cell for stealing a can of preserved meat, a role he then played in the movie The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). After his return from the war, he began his artistic career in London theaters, then moved to the cinema screen in the early fifties. He played the role of British and American soldiers. He died on December 6, 1992, in Kent, England, United Kingdom of a heart attack. He is known for The Guns of Navarone (1961) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1962).
