An American actor, born in East Orange, New Jersey, on March 12, 1921. Among his most notable work: The Colgate Comedy Hour (1950), Oklahoma! (1955), Carousel (1956), and No Place Like Home (1960). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. He began his career as a singer and musician, then worked in Broadway theaters and gained wide fame, and in the late forties, he started working on the radio. He also signed a contract with Warner Bros., and appeared in his first film, The Big Punch (1948). In the early fifties he formed a successful duo with Doris Day, and their first film together was Tea for Two (1950). He later devoted himself to television and presented many successful works, then he resumed his work in cinema. He died on January 24, 1986 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
