American actor, born June 9, 1910 in Joplin, Missouri, USA. He won an Emmy Award in 1955 for Studio One (TV Series 1948–1958). He also won two stars on the Walk of Fame for his work in film and television. He married five times: Emma Myers (m. 1931; div. 1933), Vivi Janiss (m. 1935; div. 1943), Mary Elliott (m. 1945; div. 1970), Gina Fong (m. 1971; div. 1987), and Martha Burzynski (m. 1989; till his death). Among his most important works: Saboteur (1942), My Hero1952 Dial M For Murder (1954), and The Bob Cummings Show (1955). He was a prolific film actor during the 1930s and 1940s and joined television during the 1950s and 1960s. He was born to a surgeon father and a professor of mental sciences, graduated from Joplin High School, and was educated at Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering alumni and joined the American Academy of Arts. He signed a contract with Paramount Company in 1935. He played small roles in films and Broadway theaters and always got the role of the Englishman. He obtained a first-class flight instructor certificate, a job he performed in the US Air Force while enlisting in World War II. He owned a hardware store in Beverly Hills. In his later days, he suffered from trigeminal neuropathy. Throughout his life, he was keen to eat healthy food. He died on December 2, 1990 (age 80) in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
