An American actress who was born in Bombay, India on February 19, 1911. She received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. She had four marriages, and she died on November 23, 1979 in Malibu, California, USA of a stroke. She is known for The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), Vagabond Violinist (1934), The Divorce of Lady X (1938), and Wuthering Heights (1939). She was born in India to a British father and mother from Ceylon and was educated in India until the age of 17. Then, she left for Britain with her young, wealthy British boyfriend, to become a star in London at Café de Paris and a friend of the black American jazz musician Hitachi. She met Jewish filmmakers of Hungarian origin, the Korda brother in 1930. She was discovered by the older brother Alexander who married her In 1939. She began her artistic activity in 1930 in non-effective secondary roles until she had the opportunity in 1933 when she presented a role in the movie Henry VIII's Private Life. She is known for The Dark Angel (1935) which nominated her for the Academy Award for Best Actress. In the forties, she presented 15 films. She was suffering from the sensitive skin of her face, which was poisoned twice from chemical make-up materials.
