An American actor, born on January 26, 1915 in New York, to actor, singer, comedian, and theater producer DeWolf Hopper and actress Hedda Hopper. He appeared as a child in his father's 1916 silent film Sunshine Dad. He began his acting career as a teenager. He made his first stage appearance at the Pasadena Community Playhouse. Hopper began his film career by signing a contract with Paramount Pictures. In 1936, he played a small role as a soldier in Columbia Pictures' The King Steps Out. In 1937, he participated in two films; Public Wedding, and Over the Goal. He appeared with Anne Sheridan in The Footloose Heiress (1937) and Mystery House (1938). Thereafter, he participated in many notable films, such as Stagecoach (1939), The Maltese Falcon (1941), and Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942). Hopper volunteered in the Office of Strategic Services at the US Navy during WWII, and was awarded a Bronze Star and several other medals. Hopper was involved in business and sold cars in Hollywood for several years after the war. He died on March 6, 1970, in Palm Springs.
