A British writer, journalist, and documentary filmmaker of Afghan-Indian origins, born in London. His mother is of Indian origin, and his father was the writer and Sufi teacher Idries Shah. His older sister is the documentary filmmaker Saira Shah. He also has a twin sister, the writer Safia Nafisa Shah. Shah was born and raised in Britain, where his father believed in the importance of lifelong learning, which influenced his literature. He received his university education in London, Nairobi, and San Diego. He wrote Journey to Mecca (2009) and House of the Tiger King (2004).
