British actor, born on November 30, 1866 in London. He studied philology in his youth and began performing in theater in the 1880s. Before he began acting professionally, he served seven years in the English Army. He worked on Broadway shows from 1900 until shifting into motion pictures. Among his notable works are Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920), and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923). He died on July 15, 1947 in Hollywood, USA.
