An actor who was born in Havana, Cuba on August 14, 1903 as Millard Fillmore Michell and died in Santa Monica, California, USA on October 13, 1953 of lung cancer. He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for My Six Convicts (1952) in 1953. He married actress Margaret Gould (1942-1953) and had two daughters, Mary Ellis and Margaret. His wife remained with him until his death in 1953. His most important works are Singin' in the Rain (1952), Twelve O'Clock High (1949), A Foreign Affair (1948), and The Gunfighter (1950). Born in Havana, Cuba, to American parents, Millard Mitchell was a famous New York theater and radio actor in the 1930s. As for his cinematic career, he started in 1931, and until 1936, he presented 8 films or short films in which he played small roles and stopped for several years. His real beginning was in Hollywood in 1942 when he presented Mr. and Mrs. North (1942). After World War II, he worked in many films and played the roles of strong sarcastic characters. From 1942 to 1953, he was a successful assistant actor and presented 30 films and participated in two TV series. Although he was never trained in singing, he played a good singing role in Singin' in the Rain (1952). He co-starred in The Naked Spur (1953) with James Stewart, Janet Lee, and Robert Ryan. Because of his excessive smoking, lung cancer ended his life while he was still in his fifties.
