An Austrian actor, born in Vienna, Austria as Adolf Anton Wilhelm Wohlbrück. He appeared in German cinema in 1915 with the film Marionetten 1915, and presented an undistinguished number of silent films. At the beginning of the introduction of sound into films, he presented some German romantic films, such as Waltz War (1933) and Victor and Victoria (1933), and until 1936, he presented alongside German films, Czech and French films. He settled in Britain under the name Anton Walbrook in 1936 due to his fears for his personal safety from the Nazis, and established an artistic career in British cinema. At the end of the fifties, he returned to German cinema and presented some Italian and French films, then he retired from cinema and returned to the European theater, and presented some television works. He was an introvert and a loner, and he did not marry because of his homosexuality. Among his notable works are 49th Parallel (1941), The Red Shoes (1948) and Gaslight (1940).
