An American actor who was born in Arlington, Massachusetts, USA on October 31, 1912 as Richard Hiram Cutting. He died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, on March 7, 1972 from kidney failure and high urea in blood. He married and had two children. His most important works include Magnificent Obsession (1954), South Pacific (1958), Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957), and The Great Jesse James Raid (1953). He began his career by appearing in commercials and stood on stage in Massachusetts for a long time, before appearing in film production with a supporting role in the movie Law and Order (1953). He continued his cinematic and television appearances in the roles of husband, father, doctor, teacher, writer, businessman, servant, driver, worker, aristocrat, cleric, cowboy, waiter, investigator, reporter, lawyer, and party guest. He became a household name in TV comedy series. He was an honorary member of the Actors' Rights Association and a member of the Screen Actors Guild, a supporter of the Motion Picture and Television Fund. He became a pastor of the Methodist Church and curator of the Los Angeles County Museum. He was also a theater teacher at Pasadena House for a long time and was so generous that he donated to many schools and libraries. His last appearance was in The Ride to Hangman's Tree (1967), and he died in 1972 at the age of 59.
