An American actor, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 6, 1917. He was married to the writer Ethel Tyne, and they had no children, and she remained with him until her death in 2003. He was blacklisted in the 1950s and charged with contempt of Congress, but was later acquitted. He made his debut with the movie The Dancing Masters in 1943. And his most important works are: Space Academy (1977), A Walk in the Sun (1945), It Takes a Thief (1968-1969), Needles and Pins (1973-1974). In the early nineties he taught directing courses at the California Institute of the Arts. He died in Los Angeles, on March 7, 2008 at the age of 91.
