He joined Columbia in 1935 and stayed there until 1953. He retired in the early 50s after going blind as a result of diabetes. He is known for his roles in The Shadow (1937), Malice in the Palace (1949), and Fiddlers Three (1948). He married three times but had no children. He passed away at the age of 68 from a heart attack on November 5, 1963, in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California, USA.
