Who knew that the hundredth remake of a chainsaw-slinging slasher flick would unseat "The Hobbit" from its box office throne? "Texas Chainsaw 3D" has, to everyone's surprise, topped the box office this week, earning $23 million in its debut week. The "reimagining" of the 1974 classic horror film has bright-eyed and bushy-tailed teens being hunted down by Leatherface, a psycho killer who loves his power tools.

Tarantino's hot-button "Django Unchained" has held on to its second place spot from last week, and has accrued an additional $20 million. Meanwhile, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" has fallen to third place, adding $17.5 million to its total earnings.

"Les Miserables" fell from third to fourth place this week, but can boast an additional $16.1 million this week. The musical drama is expected to score big at the Oscars this year. "Parental Guidance" slipped from fourth to fifth place, making $10.1 million this week.

Coming solidly in sixth is Tom Cruise's "Jack Reacher" with $9.3 million this week. Right behind it is the Judd Apatow comedy "This is 40," with its weekly earnings just reaching $8.6 million. Proving its staying power, "Lincoln," now in its ninth week in cinemas, remains in the top ten box office earners with $5.2 million made this week.

"The Guilt Trip" is in ninth, adding $4.5 million this week to its total revenue. Lastly, we have the environmental drama "Promised Land," starring Matt Damon and John Krasinski, which made $4.3 million this week. The glass is half full here, as the movie jumped from 29th to 10th place in the box office this week.
