When 12-year-old Josh moves with his family to a new town, Josh has difficulty adapting, but when he adopts a golden retriever named Buddy, he discovers that Buddy has amazing basketball skills and they both join the basketball team, showing extraordinary skills.
When Josh finds out that his basketball-savvy dog Buddy can also play football, he uses his help in his Junior High football team, as the team makes it to the playoffs. Buddy gets kidnapped by two Russians who want to make him perform at their circus.

As Josh falls for his classmate Emma, his dog Buddy falls for Emma's dog, Molly. Buddy soon comes to join Josh and Emma's soccer team, but his involvement might threaten the team's chances of playing in the soccer leagues.
The talented golden retriever Buddy is back, this time he discovers that he's a natural baseball player as well, as he joins Andrea's junior high baseball team. But when his puppies go missing, Buddy has to rescue them and save the day.
As Buddy discovers his extraordinary abilities in volleyball, Josh decides to play football for the college in the summer season.
